Anime Review - Berserk: The Golden Age Arc (No Spoilers)

Image
There is perhaps no manga that is more beloved than Kentaro Miura's Berserk. The series began in 1989 and it is still being published with Miura releasing chapters at irregular intervals. The first anime adaptation of the series ran from October 1997 to March 1998. The second adaptation, which is the one I'm reviewing now, took the form of 3 separate films which were released in 2012 and 2013. Both the TV series and the film series adapt what is called 'The Golden Age Arc' of Miura's manga series. I should state at the outset of this article that I have not, as of this writing, read the Berserk manga. I've only seen this film series, so I'm not going to have the same perspective on it as someone who has read the manga. With that being said, I think that this trilogy (and especially the final film) is really quite good and I'll try to explain why in this review.

Anime Review: Death Parade (No Spoilers)

Image
I first watched Death Parade after I saw that people online were recommending it to people who liked Death Note. If you've read my Death Note review, you'll know that I'm very much a fan of that show. So, naturally, I figured I would check this one out as well. Having watched it, I would argue that there aren't actually too many similarities between Death Parade and Death Note. I was also much less thrilled with Death Parade than I was with Death Note. Below, I'll explain why.

Anime Review: Death Note (No Spoilers)

Image
When non-anime viewers ask what anime they should watch, most people might recommend that they watch a movie by Studio Ghibli. I wouldn't really disagree with this, but if they asked for a series, I would recommend Death Note. Why? Because Death Note was the show that drew me into anime. Sure, I watched Pokemon, Digimon and Dragon Ball Z when I was younger, and I really liked all of those shows. But in my adult years, it was Death Note that really captivated me. I had never seen an anime quite like it before. It has a unique storyline that deals with complex themes, engaging main characters, influential artwork and an amazing soundtrack. In this review, I'll talk about all of those things.

Anime Review: Another (No Spoilers)

Image
I was never really a fan of horror anime before watching Another, but I can honestly say that this anime has shifted my view of the genre. Another is incredibly well-made and you can tell that a lot of time and effort was put into the show. To be more specific, the concise plot structure, the brilliant art direction and the wonderful character development make this show a real joy to watch. I'll go over these three elements in detail below (and don't worry, I won't spoil anything).
